Comparison of field and laboratory models of the load bearing capacity in coffee plantations Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Iori,Piero; Dias Junior,Moacir de Souza; Ajayi,Ayodele Ebenezer; Guimarães,Paulo Tácito Gontijo; Pais,Paula Sant'Anna Moreira; Andrade,Maria Luiza de Carvalho.
Precompression stress is an important property for assessment of tropical soil structure sustainability and is often determined in laboratory tests. The objective of this study was to compare the load bearing capacity models obtained with controlled moisture in laboratory and those obtained with natural field moistures determined a long one year. The evaluation of soil structural sustainability follows four distinct steps: soil sampling in the field, uniaxial compression test of the samples in the laboratory, determination of precompression stress and estimation of the load bearing capacity models. Laboratory estimates of precompression stress were obtained from moisture controlled in laboratory and from natural moisture determined in a field a long one...

Contact pressures and the impact of farm equipment on Latosol with the presence and absence of sugarcane straw Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Reginaldo Barboza da; Iori,Piero; Souza,Zigomar Menezes de; Pereira,Danilo de Moraes Gomes; Vischi Filho,Oswaldo Julio; Silva,Francisca Alcivania de Melo.
ABSTRACT High contact pressures applied to soil result in a greater degree of compaction, in addition to promoting other negative effects. The objective of this study was to quantify contact areas by using different methodologies, and pressures of farm equipment employed in production activity and evaluate structural changes caused in a Red Latosol with the presence and absence of straw cover. The design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme of type 4 (tire on front axle, tire on rear axle, tire on a sugarcane wagon and metallic track of sugar cane Harvester) x 2 (presence and absence of straw). The contact area (CA) of the run was obtained by three procedures: analytical measure of the area of an ellipse (CA1); digital measurement of area of an...

Growth and yield of anthurium in response to sawdust mulching Ciência Rural
Lima,Juliana Domingues; Zanetti,Samara; Nomura,Edson Shigueaki; Fuzitani,Eduardo Jun; Rozane,Danilo Eduardo; Iori,Piero.
ABSTRACT: The objectives of the study were to analyze the effect of sawdust mulch on the: (1) soil characteristics; (2) growth and flower yield of the anthurium cv. 'Apalai'. Assay was conducted in a totally randomized design in subdivided plots, with five treatments and eight replications. The treatment consisted of five volumes of sawdust 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80L m-2, distributed over the bed, every three months. Soil, plants and flower stalks were evaluated during two years. Soil temperature, moisture, organic matter, bulk density and water retention conditions were improved, while the leaf area of plants and the yield of flower stalks were increased when the soil were mulched with sawdust. In addition to increasing soil organic matter, however, no change...

Influence of field slope and coffee plantation age on the physical properties of a red-yellow Latosol Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Iori,Piero; Dias Junior,Moacir de Souza; Ajayi,Ayodele Ebenezer; Guimarães,Paulo Tácito Gontijo; Abreu Júnior,Áureo Aparecido.
In modern agriculture, several factors cause changes in the soil physical properties. The time of establishment of a crop (plantation age) and the slope are examples of factors that moderate the impact of mechanized operations on the soil structure. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of machinery traffic on the physical properties of a Red-Yellow Latosol under coffee plantations with different ages (2, 7, 18, and 33 years) and slope positions (3, 9 and 15 %). Samples were collected from three positions between coffee rows (lower wheel track, inter-row and upper wheel track) and at two depths (surface layer and sub-surface). Changes in the total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity, organic matter, bulk density, and aggregate stability...

Load-bearing capacity of a red-yellow latosol cultivated with coffee plants subjected to different weed managements Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Pais,Paula Sant'Anna Moreira; Dias Junior,Moacir de Souza; Dias,Adriana Cristina; Iori,Piero; Guimarães,Paulo Tácito Gontijo; Santos,Gislene Aparecida dos.
It is essential to know the levels of pressure applied to the soil by different weed managements to adapt the management of coffee plantations in a sustainable manner. The objectives of this study were: a) to generate load-bearing capacity models of a Red-Yellow Latosol (Oxisol) submitted to different weed managements and b) to determine which weed management resulted in higher compression. The study was conducted at the Experimental Farm of EPAMIG, located near the community Farias, in Lavras-MG (latitude 21° 14' 43" S and longitude 44° 59' 59" W and altitude of 919 m). The soil is a Red-Yellow Latosol (LVA) cultivated with coffee plantation using Topazio MG 1190 coffee variety, since 2006. We evaluated five weed managements, three being through...

Prediction of soil shear strength in agricultural and natural environments of the Brazilian Cerrado PAB
Silva,Reginaldo Barboza da; Dias Junior,Moacir de Souza; Iori,Piero; Silva,Francisca Alcivânia de Melo; Folle,Sergio Mauro; Franz,Claudio Alberto Bento; Souza,Zigomar Menezes de.
The objective of this work was to develop uni- and multivariate models to predict maximum soil shear strength (τmax) under different normal stresses (σn), water contents (U), and soil managements. The study was carried out in a Rhodic Haplustox under Cerrado (control area) and under no-tillage and conventional tillage systems. Undisturbed soil samples were taken in the 0.00-0.05 m layer and subjected to increasing U and σn, in shear strength tests. The uni- and multivariate models - respectively τmax=10(a+bU) and τmax=10(a+bU+cσn) - were significant in all three soil management systems evaluated and they satisfactorily explain the relationship between U, σn, and τmax. The soil under Cerrado has the highest shear strength (τ) estimated with the univariate...

O tipo e a intensidade desse uso alteram a estrutura do solo e comprometem as funções físicas dessas áreas, principalmente próximo aos cursos d'água. Numa...
